Sharing the Hay

Last evening, i went to pick-up some mulch hay. As usual, Farmer Bonnie knew exactly how to stack 21 bales into my little pick-up truck.

I delivered 10 bales to my neighbor. My gardener wants 6 bales for her goats, which leaves me with 5 bales. Just the right amount for mulching the vegetable garden.

I love sharing the hay.

Sharing Butternut Squash

Last night at 8:00, i went down to my neighbor who has chickens to get a couple of eggs so i could make scones this morning. In her garage sat 2 dozen butternut squashes. Wow! We are ready for winter. I have a dozen butternuts myself.

It's time to share the harvest of the garden. Or of the chickens.

So, this morning i made pumpkin scones, with cranberries, to take to my writing group.

Sharing squash. Sharing eggs. Sharing scones.
Share your life. It feels delicious.

Gigunda Garlic

Time to harvest garlic. This year's harvest is gigunda. One head of garlic is as big as my palm! And i have a couple of hundred of these. It's time for roasted garlic and.... Send me your garlic recipes.

I love this stiff-neck garlic--it grows really well for me. Much better than the soft-neck garlic you buy in the grocery store.Of course, i haven't bought garlic in a grocery store for 20 years.

It's time to give away garlic. But first, i choose the biggest heads and put them away for planting in October.

It's a form of loving-kindness. First, we are kind to ourselves. Then we can share our inborn feelings of kindness and caring with those around us. The more we give, the more open-hearted we feel. We create a positive feedback loop. Just like we do when we plant the biggest garlic cloves for next year's harvest.
